"White Zombie" DIY Electric Car Doing 0-60 in 2.9 Seconds!

zombie racing 2007 "White Zombie" DIY Electric Car Doing 0 60 in 2.9 Seconds!

Electric cars always leave me speechless. As many, I like to think my car is pretty fast and its torque is enough for me… just lying myself. Some of us just can’t seem to have enough of it, and gasoline engines are just not on our taste.

What’s to do in this case? Buy a more expensive gasoline technology, a new car? You’ll be spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on those and you’ll not get the 0 to 60 in three seconds… of course, you will, if you buy yourself a fast bike, or a Veyron, which is generally not the case.

This guy, John Wayland, aka “Plasma Boy”, converted a 1972 Datsun 1200 to run on batteries alone and beat the hell out of the world’s most expensive, gas-consuming racing cars. He named it the “White Zombie”.

Want some interesting facts? Here they are:

1. he used standard lead-acid batteries (at first, before switching to A123′s Li-Ion)
2. his electric motors weren’t the top notch, but reused from a forklift. Indeed, they were modified and put head-to-head by a specialized customization company, fact that gave them much more power.

John just can’t seem to get enough of his Zombie’s 0-60, even though at first it was of 3.5 seconds, but after putting the Li-Ions in, he got 2.9, making him the fastest street-legal oldie but goldie. Watch the video below. If you want some more technical details, visit John’s page here.

Lead acid batteries should always be recycled because lead should never be dumped on the soil _
